Dr. Binoy K. Saikia is a Materials Scientist at the CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat, Assam, India, and a Professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, Ghaziabad. He hails from Golaghat, Assam, and completed both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Chemistry in Assam.
He is ranked among the top 2% of energy scientists worldwide, as recognized by Stanford University, and was listed among the top 100 Asian scientists in 2022. Dr. Saikia received the “Assam Saurabh,” the second-highest civilian award of the Government of Assam, in 2023. In addition to several honors from professional societies, he was awarded the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 2021 for his outstanding contributions to science and technology. His research focuses on transforming coal, biomass, and industrial waste into advanced carbon nanostructures, including graphene, porous carbons, and heteroatom-doped frameworks, for high-performance supercapacitors, lithium-ion capacitors, and next-generation electrochemical energy storage systems. By integrating green chemistry, scalable synthesis, and device engineering, he has developed sustainable technologies that bridge laboratory innovation with real-world applications. Dr. Saikia has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, including papers in leading Nature-group journals, and holds several patents, including Indian and U.S. patents for the production of blue-fluorescent carbon quantum dots from Indian coal. He serves as a reviewer and editor for several scientific journals and has transferred multiple technologies to industry for commercialization. He has delivered numerous invited lectures at national and international institutions, including schools, colleges, universities, IITs, and NITs. He remains committed to advancing the nation’s development and prosperity through impactful research and its effective translation into practice. |
